Since its introduction in 1970, the Suzuki Jimny has been giving full-sized off-roaders a good run for their money, with the pint-sized 4WD model offering a winning combination of performance, reliability, and durability. And after introducing the latest fourth-generation Jimny in 2018, Suzuki has now stretched the platform to deliver a compact five-door version of the model.
Built atop a rugged ladder-frame chassis with a longer wheelbase, the Jimny 5-Door boasts a coil spring-equipped three-link rigid axle suspension setup. On top of boasting 8.26” of ground clearance, the 5-Door model sports approach, break-over, and departure angles of 36°, 24°, and 50°, respectively. Despite the addition of a new set of doors and a back seat, the 5-Door-spec maintains the regular version’s signature boxy design, round headlights, and flared fenders.
At the heart of the Jimny 5-Door is Suzuki’s K15B engine — a 1.5-liter inline-four mild-hybrid mill that puts down 104hp and 99ft-lbs of torque — all of which is sent to the ground through a four-wheel-drive system — and comes mated to a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. Decked out with scratch-resistant surfaces, the interior of the Jimny 5-Door features six-airbags, a SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system, an Arkamys audio system, a reversing camera, and 208 liters of storage space behind the rear seats — or 332 liters of cargo space with the back seats folded down. Riding on 15” wheels wrapped in 195/80 tires, this new Jimny model also gets electronic stability control, electronic brake-force distribution, hill-hold, and hill-descent assist. A full-sized spare is also mounted to the Jimny’s swing-out tailgate.
While pricing and availability have yet to be revealed, the 2024 Suzuki Jimny 5-Door is scheduled for a release this year. Like the existing Jimny, we assume the new 5-Door model sadly won’t be sold in America.
